Getting Started With Biographies

Our class started out learning about biographies in reading and different types of rocks and how they form in science. I had the end goal in mind-a ROCK BIO! But FIRST we had to get familiar with biographies and rocks.

SOOOO in reading we looked at different types of biographies like:

Then the students "noticed" what was different about biographies. They "noticed" biographies had timelines, sequence of events, captions, photographs, etc. Some examples that were in our book were:

Then the students created a "noticings chart" since they had noticed all the wonderful elements of a biography.
Finally, to check for an understanding of the biography genre the students created their own biography poster by researching a person in history. The biographies looked like this:
