A Peek at our Week...
This
week we will be reviewing the story Jump
that we started last week. Each student will bring the book home twice this
week to read it before the test. Please make sure you read and review this
story with your child. They will need to log it on their 100 Book Challenge log
and have it signed. We will also be practicing how to use context clues to
figure out unknown vocabulary words, working on identifying character traits
from different stories, and using evidence to support our answers. Our reading
test will be on Friday.
100 Book Challenge Goal
Targets this
week will be 22 steps (good), 40 steps (better) by August
29.
We will be reading 2 steps (30 min.) in class this week. I will assign additional
steps to be read at home each night.
*No
more than 6 steps a night can be signed.
* Please be sure to sign your child’s 100BC log so they will get credit for their
steps!
Math
In
math this week we will be working on place value to the ten thousands place.
The students will be given their math homework for the whole week. They may
work ahead if they need to or want to. We
are also still working together on Number of the Day. We will do a section at a
time, and their homework will be to study that one section that night. You can
practice by making up similar numbers and have them practice the skills. Please DO NOT have them fill out the
rest of the morning work. We will have a Number of the Day test on
Wednesday.
Science
We will begin our science
unit with mini-lessons about life cycles of animals. The students will be
working on Science Warm-ups and will study them at home. We will have a test on
Science Warm-Ups next week.
Social
Studies
We are finishing our SC
Dailies. Our test will be on Thursday. Please
make sure you are studying each section with your child each night but please
DO NOT complete the rest. We will also start our regions unit. The
students will have something to study each night for this unit.
Braden: This
week in class he was working hard to learn procedures and participating in class.
He was always on task, friendly, and respectful. We are so lucky to have Braden
in our class to provide a good example.
Parent Super Stars
Please
study at least five-ten minutes each night, each subject with your child, but
please do not fill out any morning work. Our morning work is SC Dailies, Number
of the Day, and Science Warm-Ups. They complete a section at a time in class
and we review it. This way they are not studying the wrong answers.

Please make sure to sign your child’s planner each
night. I will be signing it every day for the first nine weeks. This will help
you know that I have checked to make sure their homework is correct, and it
will help me know that you are looking over their homework assignments. This is
a new adjustment for them so I found that the signatures make for an easier
transition.
