Planting Flowers

First, when we planted flowers we got the plants. Then we dug up the clay, and had to get black soil. Next, we had to get the flower and put it in the ground. Finally, you had to put the black soil around the flower.

I liked planting the flowers because it was something new and we got to work in groups.

Measurement and Data for Earth Day

We put paint on our handprint, and then put our handpring on the world. Then we measured how long our handprint was. Next, we plotted everyone's handprint on the line dot plot.

Writing Our Persuasive Letter

First, I started my rough draft. Then I had to edit my writing. Finally, I wrote my final draft, which was a persuasive letter to Mrs. Johnson. I wanted them to plant flowers on April 22nd, Earth Day.

Earth Day Unit

Our Earth Day unit began by reading “A Mr. Rubbish Mood.” This led to discussions about how we can save our Earth and make it a better place to live. From there, students wanted to persuade other classes to join them in their efforts to “save the world.” We discussed persuasive writing and shared examples, including student examples and real life commercials/ads. Students made a difference starting in their school environment by choosing to either pick up litter or plant flowers. The students were successful in persuading others because other classes have responded by writing letters, making videos, sharing what they will do at home, and/or planting flowers to help our Earth. We are so proud of our 3rd graders!!!!!
